Privacy Policy

Effective 9 October 2026

Mindlark is provided by Mindlark Technologies Private Limited, a company incorporated in India (“Mindlark”, “we” or “us”). We decide how and why your personal data is processed, which makes us the Data Fiduciary for it under the DPDP Act.

Mindlark helps students build and verify projects and prepare for placements, and helps colleges and companies find them. This Privacy Policy explains what personal data we collect, how we use and share it, and the choices you have. It applies to everyone who uses Mindlark, including students, college staff and company users. It is written to meet the requirements of the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (the “DPDP Act”).

We do not sell your personal data.

1. Data we collect

1.1 Data you give us

You give us data when you create an account and use Mindlark.

To create an account, you give us your name, email address and a password, and you confirm that you are 18 or older. We record when you accepted our Terms of Service and this Privacy Policy. You may also add a phone number, your college and year of study, a profile photo, a cover image and a short bio. As you use Mindlark, you create content such as project submissions and images, practice answers, communication practice transcripts and conversations with Nova, our AI mentor.

1.2 Images you upload

We remove hidden details from images when you upload them.

Photos and images are resized and saved without their embedded location, device and camera details. For project images, we keep one detail from the original file: the date the photo was taken, if the file has one. We use this date, together with a digital fingerprint of the image, to check that project images are your own.

1.3 Your voice

We turn your spoken answers into text and do not keep the recording.

In communication practice and the project viva, you answer by speaking. Nothing is recorded until you press the microphone button, and the app says next to that button what happens to your recording. Your browser reduces background noise on your device. The recording is then sent to our server, which passes it to our speech-to-text provider, Groq, to turn it into text (see section 3.1). Mindlark does not save the recording: it is discarded as soon as the text is ready.

We keep the text. For communication practice, we also keep a few measurements of how you spoke, such as your speaking pace, the number of filler sounds (like “um”) and long pauses, as part of your practice results.

1.4 Data from your use of Mindlark

We collect limited technical data to keep the service working and secure.

We record information such as your device type, browser, IP address and the features you use. We use it to run and secure Mindlark, prevent misuse and fix problems.

1.5 Data from others

Your college and teammates may add information about you.

Your college may confirm that you are one of its students, and a teammate may add you to a group project.

1.6 GitHub

If you ask us to check a GitHub repository, or connect your GitHub account, we receive public information from GitHub.

When you verify a repository linked to your project, we read public information about it from GitHub: when it was created, its most recent commits (up to 100), its contributors, the names of the files in its main folder and, if you add one, your MINDLARK-VERIFY file. We use this to produce a provenance score. We keep the score, the totals shown with it (such as the number of commits and contributors), the repository link, the ID of the latest commit and the username written in your MINDLARK-VERIFY file. We do not copy your code, commit messages or email addresses.

You can also connect your GitHub account in Settings. When you do, GitHub tells us your public GitHub username and account ID, and we use them to confirm that repositories you link are yours. We do not get access to your code, your private repositories or your email address through this connection, and we do not keep access to your GitHub account. You can disconnect at any time in Settings.

2. How we use your data

We use your data to run Mindlark, evaluate your work and connect you with opportunities.

  • To provide your account and the features you use.
  • To evaluate your submissions and practice work and give you scores and feedback. Parts of this are automated, as described in section 3.
  • To check that project images are original and appropriate, including by comparing them with images on other projects, and to check linked GitHub repositories as described in section 1.6.
  • To check that your written answers are your own, by comparing them with other students' answers.
  • To show your public profile and public projects to other users, as described in section 4.
  • To share verified details with your college's placement office, and with a company when you apply to one of its challenges.
  • To keep Mindlark safe and to investigate misuse.
  • To contact you about your account, security and important changes.
  • To understand how Mindlark is used, through aggregated statistics, so that we can improve it.

We do not use your personal data for third-party advertising.

3. AI features and automated evaluation

3.1 How we use AI

AI models help us evaluate your work and power Nova.

We use AI models from providers such as Google (Gemini), Groq and Anthropic (Claude) to evaluate submissions, review uploaded images, turn spoken answers into text, assess communication practice and write Nova's replies. We send these providers only the content each task needs, and we send images at a reduced size. They process this content for us under their terms for paid business services, which do not allow them to use it to train their models. They may keep it for a short period, generally no more than 30 days, for security and abuse monitoring.

3.2 Automated decisions

You can ask a person to review any result.

Stage reviews and practice scores are produced automatically. If you think a result is wrong, email support@mindlark.in and a member of our team will review it. Images that may be unsafe or copied, and written answers that closely match another student's, are checked by a person. They are not rejected automatically.

3.3 Improving our evaluations

We use your work to improve our evaluations only if you turn this on.

We improve our evaluations mainly through aggregated statistics, such as average scores and pass rates. If you turn on “Help improve Mindlark's evaluations” in Settings, we may also use your written submissions, scores and feedback to improve how we evaluate work. This can include training or fine-tuning AI models. Before we use your work, we remove your name, email address and phone number. We do not use your images or your conversations with Nova for this purpose.

This setting is off unless you turn it on. It does not affect your scores or your access to Mindlark. You can turn it off at any time. After that, your work is left out of future training, although models trained before you turned it off cannot be changed.

3.4 Conversations with Nova

Your conversations are saved until you delete them.

We save your conversations with Nova so you can return to them. When you delete a conversation, it is removed from your history immediately and deleted from our systems within 30 days. We do not use your conversations with Nova to train or fine-tune AI models.

4. What others can see

4.1 Your profile

Your profile page is public.

Your profile page shows your name, username, profile photo, cover image, college, year of study, city, bio, Mindlark IQ, streak and public projects. Anyone with the link can view it, whether or not they have a Mindlark account.

4.2 Projects and project images

Projects are private until you make them public.

A new project is private. If you make it public, its title, description and stage progress appear on your profile page and on Explore, and its images appear on Explore. Explore is available only to signed-in users, including students, college staff and company users. You can make a project private again, or delete it, at any time.

Please do not upload images that show other people without their permission, or that show ID cards, phone numbers or other personal documents. We cannot control copies that others make of content you have made public.

4.3 Colleges and companies

Colleges see their own students. Companies see what you make public or send them.

Your college's placement office can see the profiles and project progress of students linked to that college. Companies can see public projects on Explore, and the details you share when you apply to one of their challenges.

5. How we share data

We share data with service providers that help us run Mindlark, and when the law requires it.

We use service providers for hosting, databases, file storage, email and AI processing. They handle personal data only on our instructions and under written agreements. We may disclose data if Indian law or a valid legal request requires it, or where needed to protect the rights and safety of our users and of Mindlark. If Mindlark is involved in a merger, acquisition or sale of assets, your data will continue to be protected under this Policy. We do not sell, rent or trade your personal data.

6. How long we keep your data

We keep most of your data for as long as your account is open.

  • Account and profile: while your account is open.
  • Projects and project images: until you delete the project or your account, so that public projects stay visible on Explore. When you delete a project, we delete its images from our storage immediately. If you remove an image from a draft, we delete it at once, unless it is part of a stage you have already submitted. In that case we delete it when you delete the project.
  • GitHub repository checks: until you delete the project or your account.
  • Connected GitHub account: until you disconnect it or delete your account.
  • Conversations with Nova: until you delete them or your account, and from our systems within 30 days after that.
  • Practice work and communication transcripts: while your account is open.
  • Voice recordings: not stored. A recording is discarded as soon as it has been turned into text.

When you delete your account, we delete your profile, projects, images, conversations and other content, and remove them from our systems within 30 days. We may keep limited data for longer where the law requires it, to resolve disputes or to prevent fraud and misuse. We may also keep statistics that no longer identify you. Content you made public may still exist in copies that others made before you deleted it.

7. Your rights and choices

You can access, correct and delete your data.

Under the DPDP Act, you have the right to access your personal data, correct or update it, have it deleted, withdraw any consent you have given, have your grievances addressed, and nominate another person to exercise your rights if you die or become unable to. You can do most of this yourself in the app: edit your profile, delete projects, images or conversations, change your data-use setting in Settings, or delete your account.

For anything else, email support@mindlark.in. We will respond within 30 days. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may complain to the Data Protection Board of India.

8. Children

Mindlark is for people aged 18 and over, and everyone confirms their age when they create an account. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 18. If we learn that an account belongs to someone under 18, we will close it and delete its data. If you believe this has happened, please contact support@mindlark.in.

9. Security

We protect personal data with technical and organisational measures, including encryption in transit, access controls and private storage for project files. No online service is completely secure. If a personal data breach affects you, we will inform you and the Data Protection Board of India as the law requires.

10. Data processed outside India

Some of our service providers, including our AI providers, process data outside India. We transfer data only as permitted under Section 16 of the DPDP Act.

11. Changes to this Policy

We may update this Policy from time to time. If we make a significant change, we will tell you in the app before it takes effect.
